My strategy so far is to just get my recipes in there. I probably don't use even half the features of this software.

It works well for us and I can't compare it to others.
#MACGOURMET FOR PC SOFTWARE#
Damien originally found this software for our family years ago and we've stuck with it every since. MacGourmet is what I'm using to digitize my recipe storage. Whatever I didn't use by the end of the year I really don't need to keep.

We'll have gone through the full calendar year with each growing season and holidays and birthdays. I figure one year is a long enough time to know what I really need from these binders. At the end of the year whatever is left wasn't important enough for me to use and is getting burned. Instead, each time I need a recipe from these binders (I have a pretty good idea what's in them from years of use) I grab it, use it and input it into MacGourmet. I'm not actually planning to physically go through these binders recipe by recipe. I've given myself till next summer, one year from the time we moved into this chalet, to go through these binders. Move all important recipes to digital storage. This is my strategy to get rid of my binders: But because of the changes I described above, I rarely use them anymore. I spent a lot of time building these binders and I am reluctant to let them go. Some people find security in stuff and money. They represent a type of security for me (which I'll discuss more in my next digital organizing post). Now with the google search, Pinterest, online cooking courses, and e-cookbooks (even if I don't use them much they don't take up any significant space) I decided to get rid of most of my cookbooks.īut I still held on to those binders. The only time I was reaching for them was for fresh inspiration or to find a more gourmet type recipe for a special occasion. As I simplified our menu planning around rotating themes, and gained mastery at vegan cooking, I found myself reaching for cookbooks less and less. I use a menu master, that I adjust for the seasons, to plan our weekly food. Yay! After years of work, I've actually mastered our style of plant-based cooking.Ī similar thing happened with my hardcopy cookbook collection, which is now whittled down to two or three cookbooks. But something I've noticed over the past couple years is that I have been using these recipes less and less and cooking more from memory and skill. I've worked years at sourcing, tweaking and oh yes, cooking the recipes contained therein. This is not an exhaustive list of what's out there in terms of digital recipe storage.

Like in my first post on digital organizing, I will be sharing what I use and what works for me. This topic has generated quite a bit of interest from readers and I'm happy to share what works for me in this regard. I had absolutely no issues moving my files from one computer to another.Going Paper-less in my Kitchen ~ Digital Recipe Storage I did not rebuy open office, instead I use NeoOffice – open source and free! I use iBank and have been happy with it, but it is not the same. The exception is Quicken/Quickbooks/Money – right now there isn’t a SUPER alternative.

Yes you will have to rebuy some some software, but i have mostly found that my mac came with everything I really needed and they weren’t trial versions (like most PCs lately).
#MACGOURMET FOR PC PRO#
I have a macbook pro I switched to in July, I will never go back. But to be worry-free of a virus attack? (We lost all of our photo files from 2005 due to a virus.) I bet my iPhone and iPod would be happy if I switched! What can’t be done – nothing! I would have to buy all new software (Quicken and MS Office) – which I just bought a year ago. What can be done (in comparison to my PC) pretty much EVERYTHING. She spent a over 30 minutes on the phone with me, discussing what she knows can and can’t be done with an Apple. So finally I called a very wonderful person in customer sales at Apple. I tried to just blow off the comments and move ahead. It’s scary and unknown! Can I still use my files? Will my Sony camera like a foreign Mac? Will I get burned if I can’t use the new system? I’m a control freak, and if I can’t control it, the situation stresses me out… And if I buy a Mac, I won’t know how I’ll respond, so I’m out of control. You know what I heard over and over? GET A MAC! WHAT? How do I do that? It’s so different. I got on Twitter and talked with my Tweeps.
